Our exhibits

At the Hydrogen Technology Expo 2024 Fraunhofer IMM presents three developments: its

  • methanol-reformer,
  • ammonia-cracking and
  • methanation technology.

For more than a decade, we have developed a family of reformers for decentralised hydrogen supply with focus on fuel-cell based applications. Our 75-kW methanol reformer is a prime example of compactness and efficiency. Thanks to a proprietary catalyst formulation, our system performs under high standards of stability and reliability.

Being an ideal carrier for the storage and long-distance transport of green hydrogen, Fraunhofer IMM conceived a cracking process for the reconversion of ammonia into hydrogen. This is done by using our well-established microstructure-reactor and tailor-made catalyst technology. Fraunhofer IMM's ammonia process exhibits high efficiency due to its autothermal character.

Another novel application of our microstructure-reactor technology and catalyst synthesis is a process for carbon-dioxide methanation. Our technology incorporates a highly efficient heat-management system, leading to high CO2 conversion. It finds special application in biomethane production at biogas plants.
